Thank you to Margaret Winstead (Technical Services) for running notices last Friday and Monday for Systems Dept.

End of Summer Splash!

Fairfield Lane Library ended its summer with a fun water filled program in the Village Green Park last evening.  Rhonda Laws did a wonderful job planning age appropriate activities and organizing volunteers to assist with each one.  Arvind Kochar lent a hand and was involved with the children in several activities.  Graita Banta covered the service desk while staff set up the program in the park and later took some great photos.  The children had a great time and the volunteers were well rewarded at the end with a great big SPLASH.

A BIG THANKS! for helping to make this a successful program.

Comments from parents and grandparents at the event included:

This is so great that you will do this for the children

Thank you for taking the time to have this program

I was having difficulty getting my son to enjoy books.  Thanks to you, he now loves to read.

August 2 Journal-News Community Voice mention

"I would like to thank the Lane Libraries system for their service to this community. They offer a cool place to read and use the Internet. They are also willing to listen and to work with their patrons. I was pleased and impressed at how well they responded to an on-line suggestion I recently made. Thanks, Lane Libraries. Keep up all your hard work."

"She is just amazing."

I received the following letter from a Hamilton Library user:

"I wanted to convey to you about an employee who works at the drive-in window at Lane on 3rd street.  Her name is Angie Hamey.  She is just amazing.  Everytime I pull up to the window, she is always smiling and is so cherrful.  You can tell that this employee really loves her job and it shows.  I have been coming to Lane Libraries for about 30 years now and have seen employees come and go.  Ms. Hamey stands out from all the rest in that she really does love working there.  I have never seen her have a bad day and if she does, it doesn't show."

Thank you, Angie, for consistently representating Lane so well.  Your great work is genuinely appreciated!

Toddler Time in the Summer Time at Fairfield Lane

After years of getting to know the community and honing her presenting skills, I was not surprised to see Marcy play the Ukulele, tell stories, read books, offer literacy (ECRR) asides and lead over 60 people in a dynamic Toddler Time yesterday. In addition to an excellent program Marcy has the extra oomph to then lead the children and their parents over to the books and materials, tell parents about more programs and the reading challenge, help each one thoughtfully and describe other needed library procedures to new patrons. Also, good news, two sets of grandparents came over and told me how much they liked this programs. And, there were many first time attendees. Glad I could be there to offer needed assistance at the desk. See the Kids Page for photos soon.

Great Work Charlie Patrick!

Thank you Charlie for the great job you did when reupholstering the couch and chairs in Children's.  It looks very professional.  You also saved the library some money by doing the labor yourself.

Charlie also deserves cudos for taking the initiative to repair the delivery door van.  Great job!

Recognition for Justyn Rampa

Here is an email that I received yesterday, June 21,  concerning Justyn Rampa's excellent customer service:

Mary Pat,

I wanted you to know that I came to Toddler Time this morning with my 2 ½ year old twin granddaughters, my 7 month old grandson and my daughter.  It was naturally during that terrible downpour.  The girls thoroughly enjoyed the story time and bubble blowing!  The reason I am emailing is to let you know how much one your employees, Justin, helped us as we were trying to get the kids in my daughter’s car without getting them soaked!  He came and waited with the girls near the door while I covered Carrie and the baby with my umbrella and then he helped me get the girls out to the car with very little exposure to the rain!  He talked with the girls and put them totally at ease while their mommy and grandma left them there for a minute.  When I came back to get them, he was sitting on the floor talking with them!  What a blessing he was.  It made our whole experience very positive.  They don’t get to do this at home because it is so hard for Carrie to get out with all three kids.

If you have any type of employee recognition program, please make sure Justin is recognized for his caring and excellent customer service!!

Take care,

Donna Danekind

So, it is my pleasure to recognize Justyn for going that extra mile, one more time.  Thanks you, Justyn, for doing such a great job of customer service for Lane Libraries!

Villanelle or Sonnet?

Tyler's excellent Young Writer's Workshop and Teen Writer's Workshop both support our Teen and Children's Writing Contests; "What's Your Fish Story?"  There's more to the story coming in this Sunday's Journal. Bravo, Tyler.

GOOD JOB, STEVE

I want to thank Steve for taking the extra time last
week to help move about 40 boxes of books at two locations
for the Reach Out and Read Program.

The Coordinator of the Reach Out and Read Program, Marie French,
really appreciated Steve’s help. Ms. French said he was very personable,
great to work with, and he certainly provides a positive image for Lane Library Systems.

Thanks, Steve!

"Hey, Grandpa, look at that Fish!

Charlie: BRAVO on a brilliant idea about hanging the Fish pillows at FFB!  I'm sure this will generate the needed interest we desire for our SR Fish Writing Contest for Teens and Children. Thank you for being creative and meeting the challenge of an open- ended request.  -- Gratia
