Voicemail at LAC down

Voicemail at LAC is temporarily out of order as of Wednesday, due to an equipment failure.

M.O.R.E.

All US Cargo deliveries for MORE are scheduled to come to LAC starting Tuesday, August 18.

I am collecting items to be returned to MORE from FFB and LPL this evening, along with their processing materials. We will collect for OXB tomorrow.

In Horizon, I have changed all MORE items to BKM ownership. When you process a returned MORE item now, it should be sent to BKM.

For this week, we have set all locations to be "non-responders" in MORE. Our patrons can request items, but we will not be supplying other libraries while we adjust to this change.

LOCATION PRIORITY for holds now in effect

Requests are now being filled giving priority to location, as previously announced. We have edited Horizon to deal with the Drive-Thru issues.

If you notice any problems, please log it as a Systems Work Request, using the category HORIZON.

CONGRATULATIONS, Marcy Martin!

I am pleased to announce that Marcy Martin has secured a grant from the Target Corporation. This $2,100 grant will be used to pay for a performance for the 2010 Summer Reading Program at the Fairfield Branch.

Please join me in thanking Marcy for her good work in securing this grant from Target.

Priority by Location for Holds - change postponed until next week

The change to giving priority for holds by location (rather than a patron's order in the request queue) is being postponed until the week of August 10th.

I am on vacation this week. I am postponing because I need SirsiDynix to answer a question related to the Drive-Thru locations. I don't think we'll have many problems with this change, but I'm hesitant to move forward when I'm not going to be here.

Advertisement filtering

As suggested by OPLIN in the recent OPLIN Circuit (.pdf), I recently adjusted the filter to reject advertising sites to conserve Internet bandwidth. This is why you are seeing more ACCESS DENIED messages within certain web sites. The ads are being blocked.

I am aware that this has the potential to produce unwanted results. So far, I have heard few questions about valid blocks. The exception to this is the employment site Monster.com, which a couple of staff members have brought to my attention as functional but incomplete due to the filtering.

We will continue to evaluate the effects of this change. If you are aware of other sites with issues, please log them as a Systems Work Request [Category: Filtering], providing the URL of the site in question.

Pharos parameter changed (Maximum Usage per Day)

Effective today, Pharos is set to limit the maximum time a patron can use a computer to 4 hours per day.

As always, patrons receive two 45 minutes sessions per day and may be auto-extended if a computer in their bank is free. The maximum time they can use a computer is 4 hours per day with this change, though.

Please log any issues as a Systems Work Request (Category: PHAROS).

Troubleshooting problems with patron notification [Circ Staff please read]

Today I was troubleshooting an issue with a patron who wasn't receiving email notices, and learned something I didn't know.

If a patron has an ADDRESS CORRECTION REQUESTED block on their record (typically - maybe always - generated by the patron in HIP), they will not receive a notice (phone OR email) until the ACR block is removed.
